MOM & SAXON
HAYLEY & SAXON

Saxon came into our lives aged 14 months as a rescue, we still to this day find it hard to believe how callous his previous owner was! Saxon, not a name we would have given him but as he had already been through enough we decided we didn't want to upset him any more and left it as it was.

My mom was very sad at losing our old Afghan Naz and didn't like the idea of not having a dog in the house so we thought a rescue would be ideal, within a few days of putting the word out we recieved a phone call from the Birmingham Afghan Hound Club rescue officer, a young male was in need of a good home and a lot of care and nursing would be needed, no problem we said, but why? the story to us was heart breaking, I knew who the dog was straight away I had seen him at a club show earlier in the year and had admired him, the reason he was now on the rescue was while his owner was out at work a workman had left the gate to his kennel open and he had got out on to the main road and been knocked over and hit on his front end in a panic to get back he was then hit by another car on his rear end, a lady passer by phoned the local vet who knew who he was and so he was taken there to be treated, when the vet contacted his owner and told her the news she just said "if I can't show him again, put him down"! thankfully the vet refused but was told by the owner that if she had him back she would give him to the gypsies down the road, thats where the rescue and we came in, Saxon underwent weeks of treatment at the vets and many months after, he had suffered internal injuries and a broken shoulder and leg, this meant even to go out into the garden he had to be on a lead for 6 months. Derek and I will always remember the day we went to the vets at Stafford to pick him up, his owner had to be there to sign for the insurance and him, she coldly took his lead and handed him over to us he wagged his tail pleased to see her but she didn't even fuss him or give him a hug, she was off to buy herself another show dog! poor darling Saxon was with two complete strangers he must have been so confused at what was happening to him, thankfully the Gods had placed him with a very special loving and caring family, his spiritual journey had been a hard one but he ended up where he was meant to be with us, he was always mom's special baby and she never got over losing him.

Cautionary tale!! show homes are not always the best, love is the most important thing.
